Yep, now more people can afford them and the lab gems have thw same or better margins. A good saleperson can double the profit on a lab. Put the two rings next to each other one 15k the other 3k, wait a min let me check the price on that. 15k vs 3650.
I bought my wife a natural diamond engagement ring… told her about the lab grown so she did some research. After learning she could get a slightly bigger, better diamond for a quarter of the cost she wanted me to return the natural diamond and get the lab grown in its place. She is very very happy with it and that’s all that matters to me. I too prefer the natural because it’s just that.. but she’s happier with the lab so it’s good 👍🏻.
Agreed. The fact that there is barely any secondary market for diamonds should be proof for anyone that diamonds (natural or lab) are worthless at resale.
Natural diamond can be sold back to the dealer for a fair price if you purchased it right in the first place. Anything else you buy retail you can send to the junk yard because you get nothing.

Fascinating video, I purchased my wife some lab grown diamonds when they first came out not because they were cheaper but because I was so excited by this brand new technology. They are earrings and just look like exceptionally good diamonds which they in reality are!

Buy a lab diamond, honestly. The whole “it doesn’t hold its value” argument is so played out because most diamonds do not hold even 25% of its value unless it’s a brand name, near or absolutely flawless or rare. You can gift a loved one a bigger, higher quality diamond if you go lab, plus it’s more environmentally friendly and humanly sourced.

@@Lionheart732 You can't tell if it's a lab with a diamond tester or loupe. It looks and tests the exact same as a natrual mined stone. Only way to tell is a super expensive spectrometer that looks for nitrogen, since most natrual stones have nitrogen, where as most labs don't.
This is a common myth. Firstly Diamonds are not scarce you are right, but the majority of diamands in the earth, are dirty have occuslusions, and are not fit for retail. Very very few have clarity and colour. Those are the ones that are expensive. Those diamonds are rare. So diamands are plentiful, those fit for sale are very rare when you consider the abundance of unfit diamonds.

"diamonds" aren't that rare but flawless diamonds are rare. also De Beers basically created the diamond engagement ring, before the 1930s your wedding ring was a stone that is personal to the couple. personally I'm getting my GF a ruby engagement ring that I have picked out already because her nickname is Ruby.
In Western Australia where I live, we have a diamond mine that produces the worlds best pink diamonds. They have made the commercial decision to close the mine. They have stocks that are probably not selling due to the cost vs lab grown. Diamonds are bad investments these days. Stick with gold.

Very informative vid, I really did not know lab diamonds had come down in price as much as they have. Interesting to note there was a day when the finest natural pearls were more expensive than diamonds. That all changed when cultured pearls were developed. It will be interesting to see how the future unfolds for diamonds.
My engagement ring is a lab grown 2 carat. It’s beautiful and a size that is completely believable. We’re middle class, have a nice home in a nice HOA community and drive newer Nissans. In my opinion, anything larger than a 2 carat and you should be getting out of a Mercedes when you pull up to your million dollar home or it will be assumed you’re wearing a CZ or a moissanite. My lab grown was within our “pay cash” budget at $2,500 and a real diamond. Enough said.

There is something special and alluring about wearing a singular diamond. A naturally mined diamond has a rarity factor that makes it more appealing than a mass-produced imitation. Knowing that the earth produced a diamond over millions of years makes a real gemstone feel more sentimental and valuable than one whipped up in a sterile laboratory
Wife and I talked about upgrading our rings after our 20th year anniversary. After looking at both lab grown and mined, we went with the lab grown. If it's molecularly the same, and visually identical, there really isn't much of a reason NOT to go with the lab grown. AND it was much cheaper. At the end of the day folks can make their own choice, but now you have an option that won't hurt your wallet and is identical to the other.
There's no "natural feel" difference between lab grown and natural, they look and feel exactly the same. You won't be able to tell the difference unless you carry around a specialized device 🙂

In essence: on a lab grown your spending basically for having it made but it’s a worthless stone. It’s like buying glass. A natural diamond is not an investment but it’s real and you can get some money back. I’d rather get a very high quality half carat real natural diamond for her for an every day use where it won’t get in the way. Not to big not to small, won’t get stuck on anything and if she accidentally loses it down the sink I’m only out maybe $2700 (diamond only) with setting maybe 3400-4000. My hubby purchased a 3 ct marquise cut lab-grown, set in a 14K yellow gold band with platinum prongs as my engagement ring. That thing was too huge for me! I was uncomfortable. We exchanged it for a 1 ct size marquise and it's perfect! I don't care that it's not natural. We don't like the stigma of "blood diamonds" so we chose lab, and we're not made of money, either. We got a really beautiful ring and didn't have to break the bank.
I got some lab grown 2.30 ct princess cut diamond studs for 1000$ i like then better than my natural princess cut studs 1.40 ct I paid 1800$ I'll never buy natural diamonds again

I was told by an impartial jeweler, that when you are looking for a lab vs mined stone, have the dealer you are dealing with “order in” the stones for your personal viewing. Like anything else, know what you are buying. She also said there are reputable lab diamond growers, and then there are not so reputable. A licensed (usually private jeweler) know who to source from. Just FYI diamond 💎
I have always LOVED my diamonds. I used to have a pair of real diamond earrings that were a reasonable size….devastatingly I lost one, but sadly they weren’t insured ,😢😢😢 My hubby purchased some CZ earrings to replace them years ago ( couldn’t tell the difference back then) as I didn’t trust myself not to loose them, I had also in the past lost a bracelet that was specifically made, gold horse shoes with rubies at each end…it was stunning and I lost it on our honeymoon moon. I now have ALL my diamonds and gold insured, lol, I also lost a yellow and rose gold bracelet, luckily it was insured and was able to get a replacement. So because of all my mishaps with jewellery….seems to be the bane of my life, I would DEFINITELY LOVE one of those huge lab grown diamond rings. I love the bling ! Even if I had millions I would still buy lab grown, you seriously can’t tell the difference and they are still “diamonds” just sped up grown diamonds. 💎💎💎 Thanks for the video Michael and Adam, interesting as always. ! I am sorry, but I still love my natural diamond, which is high grade in colour and clarity. It wouldn't feel the same if it was made in a laboratory. You can get emerald made in a lab, but I'd only want an emerald coming from the ground
The main reason why lab grown diamonds have come down in price is bc there is no cartel that controls the release of them. They are produced by who ever has the technology and released onto the market. Having said all this my wife is hell bent on a natural diamond. A big one too. 😢
Upgraded my wife's engagement ring for our 10th anniversary. We went with lab, really a no-brainer. Exactly the same, chemically, structurally, visually and practically, for way less money. She loves it!
Lab buyers, pleeaaassee stop saying they are exactly the same and visually the same when that is the farthest from the truth. Labs are real diamonds yes, but not the same as natural diamonds, if they were there would be NO way of telling them apart, no way at all. The reason they can be told apart is because they are not the same. Blue hues, brownish pink and grey hues and metalic inclusions which natural diamonds do not have. I'm happy your wife loves her ring and I'm sure it's pretty, I'm just tired of hearing people say they are exactly the same when it's not true. Even the GIA at a seminar gently slapped the wrist of jewelers for not educating themselves about lab diamonds and not being honest with their customers. It's on youtube you should look it up it's very interesting.
They are literally the same to the naked eye and through a loop. The ONLY way to tell the difference is with a high-powered microscope and reading the serial number where it says "lab-grown." So unless your friends carry around a high-powered microscope and look at your ring with that, no one can or will be able to tell the difference. Smaller, natural because it's intended to mean/signify something special/lasting just as Clogau (Welsh) Gold is beautiful and rare with a colour like no other Gold of any carat.
One carat lab grown cost 25$ to produce that s why jewelers love to sell them ( huge profit) , they also need a small natural diamond to grow on it and need lots of electricity for the pressure and temperature needed to make them . Synthetic emeralds , rubies and sapphires were used by big brands, like cartier , van cleefs etc in the 1920´s , today every one wants natural stones … let see what will happen
the jeweller doesn't pay the price at production, they get cut (labour costs) then pass through multiple hands that all want their own margin so by the end when it gets to the jeweller to be set the margins aren't significantly higher, based on what they're saying in the video if you watched it at all and the market trends people don't want mined nowadays like they used to so no idea where you got that from.
Gem quality rubies, emeralds and sapphires are significantly rarer than diamonds for the most part. The diamond scarcity that makes it pricey is artificial. Lab grown should reduce that artificial price increase.

I just upgraded to 5 carat radiant lab in platinum with natural diamonds on each side. Couldn’t be happier. I love both and honestly most people cannot afford large carat weight in a natural choice. I have nothing negative to say about lab especially if you do not plan to go bigger or sell it. They are every bit as real and beautiful.
I believe as time goes on the lab diamonds so mass produced they'll keep dropping to the point they become hard to sell causing it to drop in price drastically which is a good thing in my opinion makes it easier to obtain for your average joe worker.
Bought my wife a natural diamond for $10k when we got married, we traded it back in now for our 10th anniversary and with that money bought her a new ring that was triple the size and had money left over for her to get necklace and earrings. Lab grown diamonds are a no brainer, the vast majority of people will never buy natural again as it makes absolutely no sense.
companies like debeers have been holding back supply for many many years to artificially inflate prices. not to mention child labour and exploitation of a countries resources. lab grown are the best thing to happen to the diamond industry in my opinion.
I would buy lab grown. If my wife asked how much they were, I would happily tell her, and then she would want more because they are so cheap. Diamond is her birth stone anyway so she has tons of them.

I’ve just traded up from a mined .75 carat F (forgot the clarity) pear cut center stone to a 5.6 carat F of comparable quality lab grown for a mere fraction of the price of my original stone which I still have. Placed in my original setting with gorgeous round and baguette naturals the ring is a stunner. I am thrilled with this ring. Been married forever and it will be treasured as a family heirloom because of its sentiment and beauty. Not because it’s an investment. The money we would have spent on a mined diamond of comparable quality has been invested in stocks to pay for our retirement so that our children won’t have to support us. This is the real value of a lab grown diamond. They are truly beautiful with no guilt attached. I can’t wait until they perfect the colored lab stones. Finally, I’ll never sell my good jewelry anyway nor will my daughters. Remade sure, but they’re not investments.

I have all natural diamonds, just got an upgrade at 25 years to a 3.5 carat natural radiant cut and I honestly do love the fact that it’s natural but we had the budget for it. I now have children that are buying engagement rings and I 100% support the lab grown choice for both my sons and their budget and my daughter and her desire for a large stone! Also, one thing that wasn’t mentioned, it seems that the new generation feel that the lab grown is more environmentally friendly as well as more ethical??
They consolidated and signed a gentleman agreement. Also you have to build the lab, pay people and the retail need to make money too. There will be a silver lining to the price
nothing, the resale value is already a fraction of the retail price. the truth is with lab a lot of the price comes from the cutting and labour that goes into the stone so they'll always have at least the base line price from the labour that goes into it and the cost of the CVD machines or the cubic presses that are used to manufacture them. as time goes on and the methods get more efficient and further perfected they'll get even cheaper and you'll get large high clarity stones for even less. mined diamond will suffer too as the only difference between lab and mined is phosphorescence. at the end of the day the value is purely marketing as diamonds are not rare at all, sapphire, emerald and ruby are all rarer. the only rare diamonds are naturally coloured ones. natural and millions of years old means nothing at all, the iron used to make the cutlery in my kitchen draw is also natural, millions of years old and mined, same with anything that comes from the earth its all fluff and marketing.
Since it takes about 6 weeks to grow a 1 carat diamond there is a limit to how cheap it can be when you consider the equipment costs, and having to wait 6 weeks before you can make a sale. Which is probably the current prices. Now if they find a way to grow them in a week or a day, than you'll probably be able to buy them at Dollar General.

Really it is a matter of preference and budget. Although I personally prefer natural diamonds, I would consider lab for a large tennis necklace. I find it hard to compare a rare natural diamond on auction at Sotheby's with a manmade lab diamond of the same size for example. For some people, it is also about the find and discovery of a natural diamond. You do not have that in a lab diamond because it is manmade and grown in a lab. Also, if someone is concerned about the environment, wouldn't it be better to buy a vintage diamond?
My fiancé and I talked about lab vs natural diamonds when discussing engagement rings. She is big on ethically sourced everything, so we went with lab. We both realize as the tech scales and becomes more readily available, lab will depreciate harder and will eventually become much cheaper to produce overall, but that really didn't matter to either of us.
Labs already are much cheaper to produce than naturals. The profit percentage on labs is much higher than in diamonds. Labs are making the fat cats even richer.
You could have bought a diamond from Canada and many other places with ethically sourced mines. Also labs are worthless once you buy it so depreciating is not something you need to worry about since it has no resale value right out of the gate. But I'm happy you like the diamond you ended up choosing.
But why does it matter if it's a diamond anyways you see someone on the street with a diamond you wouldn't be able to tell if it's a lab or natural without the cert in his back pocket, has no resale value but the loss from buying a natural diamond at the same cut and carat and selling it is more than the price of the lab diamond all together.

But that's irrelevant because people still want the exclusivity from buying an original piece of art or designer suit/purse or natural stone. Lab diamonds as of 2/1/25 are $300 a caret. Top quality. Excellent everything. Colorless. Perfect measurements. I wonder what they will to down to by next year?
A number of years ago a guy stole $20 million from a bank, he then spent the cash on a cash of diamonds. When he was caught the diamond sellers refused to return the cash to the bank, and no-one was willing to buy the diamonds for that value. In the end the bank was stuck with the diamonds which they had to sell of piecemeal. Diamonds or worth less than a car, A car dealer will usually buy your car back if returned within a week, diamond dealers will pay you 30-50% less than what you paid for your diamond.
I think the prestige with diamonds is this. No humans were hurt in the making of this. 🎉 So the value to lab grown would come in the human aspect of owning, knowing it had nothing to do with the term blood diamond, which is the part most people with good hearts stay away from diamonds.
I think there's something special about buying something that took millions of years to be naturally made with heat and pressure. An object that is OLDER that dinosaurs. Its pretty cool if you think of it. BUT if i got married, an engagement ring at $2k is a great idea.
@@Alex-go3jn The only process metal ever underwent was in the death of a star. It takes tons of ore to get even 1/2 carat of diamond. And chances are that 1/2 carat is not worthy to put into jewellery. Natural jewellery quality diamonds are relatively rare and finding larger of those gets exponentially rarer. Diamonds come from 10s of millions of years of formation and had to really beat the odds to not reach the surface as scrap. So no, not at all comparable to metal or 'fossil juice' as quality diamonds are actually special after all. Please learn about things before spouting nonsense about them.

they say that a lab diamond will pass the diamond tester but there is a special machine that can tell the difference. So what characteristic does the special machine measure/detect in a lab vs natural?
My first Bridal set is 1.5ct natural diamond. My 10yr is here, and I got a bigger lab grown ring to go with my natural 2 wedding bands. Essentially, I just wanted a bigger engagement ring, to swap out my original. I kept my original 1.5ct natural ring and I'll admit, I am still hesitant about my 3ct lab grown engagement ring. When paired in between my natural diamond bands, you cannot tell the difference between lab grown ring and the natural bands.
I can't understand why someone would deliberately want to pay more for exactly the same only to be sure that the process that lead to them holding the diamond certainly was more wasteful, probably child labor involved, if not at least people are being exploited on the way. Why would someone chose this over a clean lab grown diamond (imagine, maybe created with renewable energy)

In my opinion, diamonds have always been overpriced because it is a "must have" for engagement... There is literally no reason to choose a natural diamond over a lab grown, other than spending more money. It takes 2-3 billion years for an earth mined diamond to form, not 10 thousand years. In general, a lab diamond will be between 60-70% less than earth mined. The only way to tell the difference between these diamonds is the crystal growth pattern within the diamond with specialized equipment. Both are beautiful!! I’ve been following the development of lab grown since 2006. Watch out for a slight brown tint to lab grown. I love the GIA certification. My lab-grown anniversary band is certified too. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE except the price (Both are made from carbon). Like, there is no difference between Ice naturally made at the North Pole and Ice made in your home freezer. Both are made from water H20.
Hands down I would and do buy lab grown gemstones! I even have CZ's that I enjoy very much! I do like lab grown diamonds, but I still think they are grossly overpriced! In the meantime ( waiting for price to come down) I would shop natural white zircon, which are akin to diamonds in light refraction and beauty. At the end of the day for the vast majority of ladies, jewelry is just a pretty fashion accessory. Wearable art and design, worn to compliment clothing and personal style. To spend copious amounts of money for that purpose is nuts, especially if you are a person who likes their jewelry to have "presence".

Once you buy a lab grown CVD diamond to sell it back dealers will offer you almost nothing for CVD (lab grown). They will buy them when they need them ( a customer asks for one) and pay 85% to 90% off the the price of a comparable natural diamond.
When lab grown were coming out, so many diamond sellers were saying they weren't real and that they'd refuse to sell them..they were terrified. Now they're all selling them.

I bought my wife a natural diamond engagement ring… told her about the lab grown so she did some research. After learning she could get a slightly bigger, better diamond for a quarter of the cost she wanted me to return the natural diamond and get the lab grown in its place. She is very very happy with it and that’s all that matters to me. I too prefer the natural because it’s just that.. but she’s happier with the lab so it’s good 👍🏻.

Buy a lab diamond, honestly. The whole “it doesn’t hold its value” argument is so played out because most diamonds do not hold even 25% of its value unless it’s a brand name, near or absolutely flawless or rare. You can gift a loved one a bigger, higher quality diamond if you go lab, plus it’s more environmentally friendly and humanly sourced.
They're like cars, the really nice ones hold value, the average one you see driving around is worth 1/4th what they paid for it originally.

@@Lionheart732 You can't tell if it's a lab with a diamond tester or loupe. It looks and tests the exact same as a natrual mined stone. Only way to tell is a super expensive spectrometer that looks for nitrogen, since most natrual stones have nitrogen, where as most labs don't.

This is a common myth. Firstly Diamonds are not scarce you are right, but the majority of diamands in the earth, are dirty have occuslusions, and are not fit for retail. Very very few have clarity and colour. Those are the ones that are expensive. Those diamonds are rare. So diamands are plentiful, those fit for sale are very rare when you consider the abundance of unfit diamonds.
Also, ethically mined with paperwork are not as common…

In Western Australia where I live, we have a diamond mine that produces the worlds best pink diamonds. They have made the commercial decision to close the mine. They have stocks that are probably not selling due to the cost vs lab grown. Diamonds are bad investments these days.

Very informative vid, I really did not know lab diamonds had come down in price as much as they have. Interesting to note there was a day when the finest natural pearls were more expensive than diamonds. That all changed when cultured pearls were developed. It will be interesting to see how the future unfolds for diamonds.
My engagement ring is a lab grown 2 carat. It’s beautiful and a size that is completely believable. We’re middle class, have a nice home in a nice HOA community and drive newer Nissans. In my opinion, anything larger than a 2 carat and you should be getting out of a Mercedes when you pull up to your million dollar home or it will be assumed you’re wearing a CZ or a moissanite. My lab grown was within our “pay cash” budget at $2,500 and a real diamond. Enough said.
We were able to trade in a small natural diamond use the band from that ring and get a 2 carat round cut for less than 1000!

There is something special and alluring about wearing a singular diamond. A naturally mined diamond has a rarity factor that makes it more appealing than a mass-produced imitation. Knowing that the earth produced a diamond over millions of years makes a real gemstone feel more sentimental and valuable than one whipped up in a sterile laboratory
Wife and I talked about upgrading our rings after our 20th year anniversary. After looking at both lab grown and mined, we went with the lab grown. If it's molecularly the same, and visually identical, there really isn't much of a reason NOT to go with the lab grown. AND it was much cheaper. At the end of the day folks can make their own choice, but now you have an option that won't hurt your wallet and is identical to the other.

My hubby purchased a 3 ct marquise cut lab-grown, set in a 14K yellow gold band with platinum prongs as my engagement ring. That thing was too huge for me! I was uncomfortable. We exchanged it for a 1 ct size marquise and it's perfect! I don't care that it's not natural. We don't like the stigma of "blood diamonds" so we chose lab, and we're not made of money, either. We got a really beautiful ring and didn't have to break the bank.

I was told by an impartial jeweler, that when you are looking for a lab vs mined stone, have the dealer you are dealing with “order in” the stones for your personal viewing. Like anything else, know what you are buying. She also said there are reputable lab diamond growers, and then there are not so reputable. A licensed (usually private jeweler) know who to source from. Just FYI diamond 💎

I have always LOVED my diamonds. I used to have a pair of real diamond earrings that were a reasonable size….devastatingly I lost one, but sadly they weren’t insured ,😢😢😢 My hubby purchased some CZ earrings to replace them years ago ( couldn’t tell the difference back then) as I didn’t trust myself not to loose them, I had also in the past lost a bracelet that was specifically made, gold horse shoes with rubies at each end…it was stunning and I lost it on our honeymoon moon. I now have ALL my diamonds and gold insured, lol, I also lost a yellow and rose gold bracelet, luckily it was insured and was able to get a replacement. So because of all my mishaps with jewellery….seems to be the bane of my life, I would DEFINITELY LOVE one of those huge lab grown diamond rings. I love the bling ! Even if I had millions I would still buy lab grown, you seriously can’t tell the difference and they are still “diamonds” just sped up grown diamonds. 💎💎💎

The main reason why lab grown diamonds have come down in price is bc there is no cartel that controls the release of them. They are produced by who ever has the technology and released onto the market.

Lab buyers, pleeaaassee stop saying they are exactly the same and visually the same when that is the farthest from the truth. Labs are real diamonds yes, but not the same as natural diamonds, if they were there would be NO way of telling them apart, no way at all. The reason they can be told apart is because they are not the same. Blue hues, brownish pink and grey hues and metalic inclusions which natural diamonds do not have. I'm happy your wife loves her ring and I'm sure it's pretty, I'm just tired of hearing people say they are exactly the same when it's not true. Even the GIA at a seminar gently slapped the wrist of jewelers for not educating themselves about lab diamonds and not being honest with their customers. They are literally the same to the naked eye and through a loop. The ONLY way to tell the difference is with a high-powered microscope and reading the serial number where it says "lab-grown." So unless your friends carry around a high-powered microscope and look at your ring with that, no one can or will be able to tell the difference. One carat lab grown cost 25$ to produce that s why jewelers love to sell them ( huge profit) , they also need a small natural diamond to grow on it and need lots of electricity for the pressure and temperature needed to make them . Synthetic emeralds , rubies and sapphires were used by big brands, like cartier , van cleefs etc in the 1920´s , today every one wants natural stones … let see what will happen
the jeweller doesn't pay the price at production, they get cut (labour costs) then pass through multiple hands that all want their own margin so by the end when it gets to the jeweller to be set the margins aren't significantly higher, based on what they're saying in the video if you watched it at all and the market trends people don't want mined nowadays like they used to so no idea where you got that from.
Gem quality rubies, emeralds and sapphires are significantly rarer than diamonds for the most part. The diamond scarcity that makes it pricey is artificial. Lab grown should reduce that artificial price increase.

I just upgraded to 5 carat radiant lab in platinum with natural diamonds on each side. Couldn’t be happier. I love both and honestly most people cannot afford large carat weight in a natural choice. I have nothing negative to say about lab especially if you do not plan to go bigger or sell it. They are every bit as real and beautiful.
I struggle with lab growns. I would always prefer natural that took millions of years to grow. So much more meaning in it.

When I got married in 2008 the lab diamonds were coming up but only in smaller than 1ct, now the sizes are anything you can afford. Incredible!
I would buy lab grown. If my wife asked how much they were, I would happily tell her, and then she would want more because they are so cheap. Diamond is her birth stone anyway so she has tons of them.

I’ve just traded up from a mined .75 carat F (forgot the clarity) pear cut center stone to a 5.6 carat F of comparable quality lab grown for a mere fraction of the price of my original stone which I still have. Placed in my original setting with gorgeous round and baguette naturals the ring is a stunner. I am thrilled with this ring. Been married forever and it will be treasured as a family heirloom because of its sentiment and beauty. Not because it’s an investment. The money we would have spent on a mined diamond of comparable quality has been invested in stocks to pay for our retirement so that our children won’t have to support us. This is the real value of a lab grown diamond. They are truly beautiful with no guilt attached. I can’t wait until they perfect the colored lab stones. Finally, I’ll never sell my good jewelry anyway nor will my daughters. Remade sure, but they’re not investments.
Love the video, very informative. I have all natural diamonds, just got an upgrade at 25 years to a 3.5 carat natural radiant cut and I honestly do love the fact that it’s natural but we had the budget for it. I now have children that are buying engagement rings and I 100% support the lab grown choice for both my sons and their budget and my daughter and her desire for a large stone! Also, one thing that wasn’t mentioned, it seems that the new generation feel that the lab grown is more environmentally friendly as well as more ethical??

What's to stop lab grown from becoming very cheap and worthless as more lab grown manufacturers come to the industry?
They consolidated and signed a gentleman agreement. Also you have to build the lab, pay people and the retail need to make money too. There will be a silver lining to the price
nothing, the resale value is already a fraction of the retail price. the truth is with lab a lot of the price comes from the cutting and labour that goes into the stone so they'll always have at least the base line price from the labour that goes into it and the cost of the CVD machines or the cubic presses that are used to manufacture them. as time goes on and the methods get more efficient and further perfected they'll get even cheaper and you'll get large high clarity stones for even less. mined diamond will suffer too as the only difference between lab and mined is phosphorescence. at the end of the day the value is purely marketing as diamonds are not rare at all, sapphire, emerald and ruby are all rarer. the only rare diamonds are naturally coloured ones. natural and millions of years old means nothing at all, the iron used to make the cutlery in my kitchen draw is also natural, millions of years old and mined, same with anything that comes from the earth its all fluff and marketing.

Since it takes about 6 weeks to grow a 1 carat diamond there is a limit to how cheap it can be when you consider the equipment costs, and having to wait 6 weeks before you can make a sale. Which is probably the current prices. Now if they find a way to grow them in a week or a day, than you'll probably be able to buy them at Dollar General.

Really it is a matter of preference and budget. Although I personally prefer natural diamonds, I would consider lab for a large tennis necklace. I find it hard to compare a rare natural diamond on auction at Sotheby's with a manmade lab diamond of the same size for example. For some people, it is also about the find and discovery of a natural diamond. You do not have that in a lab diamond because it is manmade and grown in a lab. Also, if someone is concerned about the environment, wouldn't it be better to buy a vintage diamond?
My fiancé and I talked about lab vs natural diamonds when discussing engagement rings. She is big on ethically sourced everything, so we went with lab. We both realize as the tech scales and becomes more readily available, lab will depreciate harder and will eventually become much cheaper to produce overall, but that really didn't matter to either of us.
Labs already are much cheaper to produce than naturals. The profit percentage on labs is much higher than in diamonds. Labs are making the fat cats even richer.
You could have bought a diamond from Canada and many other places with ethically sourced mines. Also labs are worthless once you buy it so depreciating is not something you need to worry about since it has no resale value right out of the gate. But I'm happy you like the diamond you ended up choosing.
But why does it matter if it's a diamond anyways you see someone on the street with a diamond you wouldn't be able to tell if it's a lab or natural without the cert in his back pocket, has no resale value but the loss from buying a natural diamond at the same cut and carat and selling it is more than the price of the lab diamond all together.

But that's irrelevant because people still want the exclusivity from buying an original piece of art or designer suit/purse or natural stone. Lab diamonds as of 2/1/25 are $300 a caret. Top quality. Excellent everything. Colorless. Perfect measurements. I wonder what they will to down to by next year?
A number of years ago a guy stole $20 million from a bank, he then spent the cash on a cash of diamonds. When he was caught the diamond sellers refused to return the cash to the bank, and no-one was willing to buy the diamonds for that value. In the end the bank was stuck with the diamonds which they had to sell of piecemeal. Diamonds or worth less than a car, A car dealer will usually buy your car back if returned within a week, diamond dealers will pay you 30-50% less than what you paid for your diamond.
I think the prestige with diamonds is this. No humans were hurt in the making of this. 🎉
So the value to lab grown would come in the human aspect of owning, knowing it had nothing to do with the term blood diamond, which is the part most people with good hearts stay away from diamonds.
I think there's something special about buying something that took millions of years to be naturally made with heat and pressure. An object that is OLDER that dinosaurs. Its pretty cool if you think of it.

@@Alex-go3jn The only process metal ever underwent was in the death of a star. It takes tons of ore to get even 1/2 carat of diamond. And chances are that 1/2 carat is not worthy to put into jewellery. Natural jewellery quality diamonds are relatively rare and finding larger of those gets exponentially rarer. Diamonds come from 10s of millions of years of formation and had to really beat the odds to not reach the surface as scrap. So no, not at all comparable to metal or 'fossil juice' as quality diamonds are actually special after all. Please learn about things before spouting nonsense about them.

My first Bridal set is 1.5ct natural diamond. My 10yr is here, and I got a bigger lab grown ring to go with my natural 2 wedding bands. Essentially, I just wanted a bigger engagement ring, to swap out my original. I kept my original 1.5ct natural ring and I'll admit, I am still hesitant about my 3ct lab grown engagement ring. When paired in between my natural diamond bands, you cannot tell the difference between lab grown ring and the natural bands.
I can't understand why someone would deliberately want to pay more for exactly the same only to be sure that the process that lead to them holding the diamond certainly was more wasteful, probably child labor involved, if not at least people are being exploited on the way. Why would someone chose this over a clean lab grown diamond (imagine, maybe created with renewable energy)

Lab diamonds have ruined diamonds. Now there is an infinite amount so they are no longer special.
It takes 2-3 billion years for an earth mined diamond to form, not 10 thousand years. In general, a lab diamond will be between 60-70% less than earth mined. The only way to tell the difference between these diamonds is the crystal growth pattern within the diamond with specialized equipment. Both are beautiful!! I’ve been following the development of lab grown since 2006. Watch out for a slight brown tint to lab grown. I love the GIA certification. My lab-grown anniversary band is certified too. Whether earth mined or lab grown, enjoy your beautiful diamonds.

Hands down I would and do buy lab grown gemstones! I even have CZ's that I enjoy very much! I do like lab grown diamonds, but I still think they are grossly overpriced! In the meantime ( waiting for price to come down) I would shop natural white zircon, which are akin to diamonds in light refraction and beauty. At the end of the day for the vast majority of ladies, jewelry is just a pretty fashion accessory. Wearable art and design, worn to compliment clothing and personal style. To spend copious amounts of money for that purpose is nuts, especially if you are a person who likes their jewelry to have "presence".
Definitely lab grown. I actually see them significantly disrupting the real diamond market in a few years.
A market which really needs disrupting. De Beers have a very... colourful history and still control about 65% of the diamond market.

Once you buy a lab grown CVD diamond to sell it back dealers will offer you almost nothing for CVD (lab grown). They will buy them when they need them ( a customer asks for one) and pay 85% to 90% off the the price of a comparable natural diamond.
